Keeping your child safe online (e-safety)

The internet is a fantastic tool and there is a wealth of information online. We encourage all our pupils to use the internet to extend their knowledge and understanding around a range of subjects.

 

The internet can, however, be a daunting and sometimes dangerous place for children. We regularly teach online safety within lessons across all age ranges within school. 

 

As a parent you need to be aware of the risks your child will face when they use the internet and other electronic forms of communication. On this page, you will find some useful material to help you keep your child safe online.

CEOP KS1 Film : 'Lee & Kim' Cartoon Suitable 5 yrs -- 7 yrs

Cartoon 'Lee & Kim' if you have small children from 4 - 7 years then you should let them view this short 10 minute cartoon, which is designed to keep them safe whilst online and more importantly, this cartoon teaches them in their early years.

Jigsaw: for 8 -10 year olds

This is an assembly from CEOP's Thinkuknow education programme that helps children to understand what constitutes personal information. The assembly enables children to understand that they need to be just as protective of their personal information online, as they are in the real world.

The focus of this year's Safer Internet Day was the increasing influence of digital images and videos in children's lives. 

 

Reception & KS1

 

  • Children discussed what details are classed as personal information, and that these should be kept private.
  • They looked at a variety of photographs, making decisions about which photos were okay and not okay to share online.

 

KS2

 

  • Children explored how photos shared online can potentially stay there forever and may reach a wider audience than they intended.
  • They considered how photos create an impression of their character and personality (online reputation) and used this knowledge to develop a strategy to help them decide if a photo/image is okay to share online or not.
