Mental Health and Well-being

“Mental health is a state of well-being in which every individual realises his or her own potential, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to her or his community.”
                                                                                    (World Health Organization 2014)

Welcome to the Health and Well-being Page

At Bramley St. Peter's C of E Primary School, we understand the need for everyone in our school to have a healthy lifestyle. This helps pupils and staff to do their best and build on their achievements. We actively promote physical and emotional health, and aim to equip pupils with the understanding and skills they need to make informed decisions about their health, both now and in the future. By championing healthy eating, healthy lifestyles and emotional health and well-being, we are aiming to continue to raise standards and improve levels of pupil achievement.

At our school we:

  • help children to understand their emotions and feelings better
  • help children feel comfortable sharing any concerns or worries
  • help children socially to form and maintain relationships
  • promote self esteem and ensure children know that they count
  • encourage children to be confident and ‘dare to be different’
  • help children to develop emotional resilience and to manage mistakes, and by experiencing perseverance, challenge and independence.

As Mental Health First Aiders at Bramley St. Peter's our designated staff:

  • understand the important factors affecting mental ill health
  • identify the signs and symptoms for a range of mental health conditions
  • provide mental health first aid to someone experiencing a mental health issue or crisis
  • listen non-judgementally and hold supportive conversations
  • signpost people to professional help
