PE funding

We are very proud of the quality of our Sport and Healthy Lifestyle provision at Bramley St Peter's Primary School and it is given great priority.  Through PE & Sport our children learn to develop the important qualities of discipline, resilience, communication, team work, and ambition, leading to improved concentration, attitude, and academic achievement.

We welcomed the Government’s announcement to provide additional funding to improve provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools. We are committed to using this resource in developing high quality PE lessons, alongside widening opportunities to try different sports.

What does the Sport Premium mean for our School?

‘Schools must spend the additional funding on improving their provision of PE and sport, but they will have the freedom to choose how they do this’

(DfE June 2013).

Swimming provision

At Bramley St Peter's our pupils attend swimming lessons in Year 4. The lessons, at Bramley Baths, are attended once a week for a whole academic year. The aim is for pupils to develop their swimming ability in order for them to swim 25m confidently and competently in the pool, as per the National Curriculum requirements.

Please see the 'evidencing the impact' document above for our swimming data.

We are a school that values sport and PE because:

  • Children enjoy it because it’s fun to do.
  • It contributes to their physical and emotional wellbeing
  • It helps them to develop healthy lifestyles.
  • If taught well, it develops their social skills, their humanity and empathy and it teaches them how to persevere and be resilient.
