Curriculum Enrichment
Our curriculum extends beyond the National Curriculum and includes a wide range of enriching experiences both within and beyond the school day. A primary focus of our curriculum is to raise aspirations, engender a sense of personal pride in achievement, and provide a purpose and relevance for learning. Rich experiences play a vital role in displaying our school values, nurture, discover and respect and to ensure that our children encounter more of what life has to offer.
In addition to our exciting and stimulating cross-curricular themes, we also provide further opportunities to enhance children's learning wherever possible. These include:
|
Healthy: Inside and Out Days
As part of our half termly Healthy: Inside and Out days, the children enjoy creative, physical, cooking or team work activities.
Whole School Theme days/Weeks:
Throughout the year, themed days/weeks are woven into the curriculum to extend and enhance the breadth and balance of opportunities we offer our pupils. These include, Science Day, World Book Day, Black History Day, Anti-bullying day, Safer Internet Day, Parliament Week, Writing and Art Week and the Galley Poetry Competition.
Educational Visits and Residentials: School trips and visits are an integral part of the education of our children. We value the opportunities such visits offer our pupils and the commitment of staff and adults undertaking them. Trips include class visits aimed at bringing learning alive and providing first-hand experience. Children in 4 and 6 take part in residential visits. These are planned to provide new and exciting experiences. |
Visitors into School and Workshops: Visitors have a valuable role to play and can contribute to many aspects of the life and work of the school. They deliver workshops and full day activities across a wide range of subjects, giving pupils access to outside experiences and expertise. Visitors provide a link with the wider community – children can work alongside musicians, authors, health professions and others. Each year group has a chance to find out about issues effecting the world during a Global Workshop. |
After School Clubs: We offer children the opportunity to participate in extra- curricular activities after school and during lunchtime. There are a range of clubs on offer during the year available to the different year groups. Sessions are taken by a mixture of school staff and professional coaches. The clubs include singing, coding, football, art, gymnastic, eco Warriors, basketball, dodgeball, athletics, dance and skipping. |
Sports Competitions: As part of the Bramley Cluster and West Leeds School Sport Partnership we access a wide range of competitive activities (including Bramley Olympics and The Brownlee Triathlon), where children are inspired to succeed and excel in competitive sport. |
School Council: Representatives from each year group are part of the school council. The discuss things they want to change and develop both in school and the local community. The councillors act as the spokespeople for their class so that all pupils in school can have their views heard. |
