All children in KS2 participate in daily whole class reading, where they are exposed to high-quality literature. At the beginning of the lesson, the children discuss new vocabulary that they may discover in the text. Then, through the session, the teachers model many reading skills such as fluency, intonation and expression. The children then have the opportunity to discuss the text before carrying out a range of directed activities related to text to help them to develop their vocabulary, inference, prediction, retrieval and summarising skills (also known as reading VIPERS).
