Summer 2

All the children in Year One have worked incredibly hard all year. As a reward, the children were invited to a teddy bears' picnic. They brought along their favourite teddy bear and story book. We had a little rain, but that did not stop us from having a wonderful time. We shared our stories and ate our delicious picnic food!

Our new topic for this half term is ‘At the Seaside.’ We will be looking at what seaside holidays were like in the past compared to seaside holidays now. We will be learning about the story of Grace Darling and thinking about why she is famous.

Summer 1

Our Topic for Summer 1 is Africa!

We will be learning about what it would be like to live there, and if we would prefer to live in England or Africa. We will also be learning about different animals and their habitats.

Year One had a fantastic time at The Yorkshire Wildlife Park. We saw lots of different animals in their habitats. The children had so much fun, they didn’t want to leave!

For coming second for having the best attendance last week, 1LN were chosen to meet a very special guest. Her name was Matilda the Book Bus, beautifully illustrated by Quentin Blake. Matilda was joined by David Gordon who delivered a very interesting assembly about the history of the ‘Book Buses’, and their journey to Africa, Asia and South America. She made a quick stop before departing to Malawi in Africa.

World Book Day in Year 1! The children had a fantastic time reading lots of books. They shared their books with their friends, parents, teachers and teddy bears! We even did some 'extreme' reading under the tables!

Look at our reading buddies! Can you see your special reading buddy?

Spring 2

Can you guess what our topic is for Spring 2?

Here is a clue! Once upon a time...

Traditional and fairy tales!                                Year 1 will be sharing and reading their favourite traditional stories.

We have started our new topic with Rumpelstiltskin and the children have set themselves a challenge to see how many stories they can read before we break up for the Easter holidays!

We will also write our very own story using the features of a traditional tale and read them to the children in reception.

Spring 1

Our new topic this half term is Space! The children will be learning about the planets, stars and space travel. We will also be learning about the astronaut Neil Armstrong.

We will follow the current astronaut Tim Peake and his exciting journey into space, to the International Space Station.

On Tuesday 2nd February we took part in the 'Cosmic Classroom'. We, along with lots of other schools around the world, linked up with Tim Peak live from the ISS as he was orbiting the Earth. He showed us how things that we can do easily on Earth are not so easy to do in space!
We have been very busy during the last week of Spring 1...
Year 1 were very excited to go to church today. We were attending a very special wedding celebration. Vicar Paul showed us what happens during a wedding ceremony as we have been learning about weddings and baptisms in RE. We even listened to some wedding music and walked up and down the aisle. The children really enjoyed the whole experience and said a big thank you to Vicar Paul. What lovely manners our children have!

It was 1LN's class assembly today. The theme was...trusting God with our future. We had a very full hall. It was so lovely to see so many parents and carers. :)

We talked about what we wanted to be when we grew up and even acted out some of those roles such as; an artist, hairdresser, teacher, nurse, head teacher and even astronauts! The children practised their lines, poems and songs. They enjoyed reciting the poem 'Now we are Six' by A.A. Milne.

1LN performed a wonderful assembly. We were all very proud! Well done.

Year 1 visits Bramley library...

We had such a lovely time at the library today. The Librarian was very friendly and even read 'Aliens Love Underpants' to us. She asked us lots of questions about books such as; What is a non-fiction book? What is a fiction book? Where can you find the blurb? What does an author do? What does an illustrator do? She was very impressed with all our answers!

We will be back again very soon!

Autumn 2

Our new topic for this half term is 'Into the Woods'. The children have enjoyed working in the small world area, making homes for the woodland animals.

Autumn 1

1LN are the Attendance Champions!!!

The children were very excited and proud to collect the trophy this week! Well done!

In Year 1, we enjoyed Halloween, and took part in some exciting activities around the classroom based on the topic.
